A Luxury Eco House Stay at Bosinver

Our normal holidays are usually simple, practical and a little bit muddy. More often than not, they involve tents, hammocks or, when we feel like adding a touch of comfort, the caravan. We are very used to packing light, cooking outdoors and making do with whatever the weather decides to throw at us.

After those kinds of trips, we generally come home a little grubby, smelling faintly of woodsmoke and fresh air, and very much in need of a long hot shower. There is a lot to love about that kind of outdoor adventure, but it is fair to say that luxury is not usually part of the plan.

So, place me in a luxury eco house with en suite bathrooms, a dishwasher, beautiful interiors and a hot tub, and I am suddenly transformed into Cinderella at the ball. The only problem is that I do not want the clock to strike midnight, and I certainly do not want to go home.

Celebrating a 40th Birthday in Style

We came here to celebrate Lizzy’s 40th birthday in proper style. For the occasion, she hired six of the twenty cottages at Bosinver, creating a wonderful base for friends and family to relax, gather, eat, laugh and enjoy a very special few days together. It felt like a magical little escape, with the perfect balance of comfort, celebration and calm.

There is something especially lovely about staying somewhere that feels indulgent without feeling wasteful. Bosinver offered that rare combination of relaxation and thoughtful design. It was peaceful enough to feel like a retreat, yet sociable enough to make the birthday celebrations feel warm and memorable.

Staying in Lowen, a Straw Bale Eco House

We stayed in Lowen, a straw bale eco house designed to be fully energy self-sufficient. For someone more accustomed to canvas, campfires and basic facilities, it was a real treat to experience an eco-friendly holiday home that managed to feel both practical and luxurious.

Lowen collects energy from the sun and the ground, using it to power everything from the underfloor heating to the lighting, gadgets and appliances throughout the house. It was fantastic to see this kind of sustainable technology working so smoothly in a real home. These are ideas I had previously only read about, so experiencing them first-hand made the stay even more interesting.

The house felt warm, comfortable and beautifully considered. Every detail seemed to have been chosen to make the stay easy, restful and enjoyable. Having so much space, proper bathrooms and all the little conveniences that come with a well-equipped holiday cottage felt like a real change from our usual way of travelling.

Good Food, Great Company and Time to Relax

The days passed in that wonderfully easy way that only happens when you are surrounded by good people, good food and no urgent plans. There were tasty treats, shared meals, plenty of conversation and time to simply enjoy being away from normal routines. For a birthday celebration, it was hard to imagine anything better.

A few days in a luxury eco cottage reminded me that a holiday can be both comfortable and connected to the natural world. It does not always have to mean roughing it, even for those of us who usually head outdoors with a tent and a sense of adventure. Sometimes, a soft bed, a hot tub and a clever eco house are exactly what is needed.
