February is one of my favorite months for baking. After the busy holiday season, I settle back into a comfortable routine and enjoy trying a mix of reliable favorites and new sourdough experiments. I like to keep my freezer stocked with ready-to-enjoy baked goods, so I bake a variety of items I can grab for school lunches, weekend breakfasts, or a quick snack—everything from chewy sourdough bagels to soft sandwich loaves and split English muffins that toast up perfectly.
This month I often focus on sourdough projects because they’re versatile and rewarding. I alternate between enriched breads and simple hearth breads, sometimes making laminated or enriched doughs and other times concentrating on quick bakes like muffins and cookies. Baking in February also fits naturally around a few fun days on the calendar—Super Bowl weekend and Valentine’s Day give me an excuse to create themed cookies and treats, and a school break in the middle of the month means more hands-on baking with the kids. It’s a great time to try chocolatey sweets, fruit-forward loaves, and soft hamburger or sandwich rolls that freeze well.

If you don’t see a specific recipe linked below, it means I’m still developing or photographing it—expect new recipes to appear throughout February. I usually announce new posts right away on Instagram, so that’s the fastest place to hear about additions.
February 2025 Baking Recipes
Below are the recipes I plan to bake and share this month. Many of these are excellent for making ahead and freezing, and most adapt well to either an active starter or sourdough discard, so you can fit them into your usual routine.
- Sourdough Sugar Cookies — tender, slightly tangy cut-out cookies that roll and decorate beautifully.
- Double Chocolate Sourdough Muffins — rich, moist muffins studded with chocolate chunks for an indulgent breakfast or snack.
- Strawberry Sourdough Loaf — a soft, slightly sweet loaf with bright fruit folded into the dough, perfect for brunch or toast.
- Sourdough Hawaiian Rolls or Sourdough Discard Hawaiian Rolls — pillowy, slightly sweet rolls that are great for sliders and dinners.
- Sourdough Focaccia Bread — a dimpled, olive oil-rich flatbread; you can also explore other focaccia variations I’ve developed for different textures and toppings.
- Sourdough Banana Muffins — a practical way to use ripe bananas and sourdough discard for moist, banana-forward muffins.
- Sourdough Pizza Dough — versatile dough that crisps and blisters beautifully in a hot oven, perfect for homemade pizza nights.
- Sourdough Sandwich Bread — a soft, even-textured loaf that makes excellent sandwiches, toast, and grilled cheese.
Which of these would you like to try first? Many of these recipes work well as make-ahead items or freezer-friendly options, so they’re ideal if you prefer to bake in larger batches and enjoy fresh bread throughout the week.
