Having my first child changed me in ways I never expected, both beautiful and difficult. Becoming a mom stretched my heart, tested my patience, and showed me a kind of love I could never fully describe. But having a second child changed me again. This time, motherhood helped me become a calmer, less stressed, more present, and more fun-loving mom. Over the last three years, I have learned so much about parenting, worry, grace, and letting go, and I want to share a little piece of that journey with you.

This topic has been on my heart lately because it was not always easy for me to admit how much I struggled after becoming a mother for the first time. When I had August, my firstborn, I was overwhelmed in almost every way. Having your first child changes your whole world. It is wonderful, emotional, and filled with a love that feels bigger than anything you have known before. At the same time, it can be incredibly hard. We had challenges with breastfeeding, concerns about weight gain, and all the normal newborn struggles that feel enormous when you are living through them on very little sleep.
At the time, I was working part-time as a dietitian, and part of my job involved evaluating children’s development. Because of that, I became hyper-aware of every milestone. I constantly wondered if August was doing what other babies her age were doing. I watched, compared, researched, and worried. Even when she was saying ten words by her first birthday, I still managed to convince myself that something might be wrong. I spent too many nights searching for answers and letting fear steal my peace.
Some of that may have been normal first-time mom worry, but for me, it felt like it went far beyond that. I had a hard time enjoying the sweet everyday moments because my mind was always racing ahead to the next concern. I stopped doing many things I loved. I even stopped blogging for months, which was very unlike me. That season of motherhood was one of the hardest seasons of my life, even though it was also filled with so much love.
When my husband first started talking about having a second child, my honest reaction was hesitation. Babies are such a blessing, but I was afraid of going through all of it again: the sleepless nights, the feeding struggles, the constant worrying, and the pressure I put on myself to do everything right. Eventually, when we decided to have another baby, I felt both nervous and hopeful. I wanted to believe that this time might be different. I hoped I would not fall back into the same cycle of fear and exhaustion.
Having Our Second Baby Changed Me
When our second baby arrived, something shifted in me. I still worried sometimes, because I think most moms do. But I no longer had the mental space to worry about every tiny detail. I became more relaxed. I became more playful. I started allowing myself to enjoy the little moments without constantly measuring them against what I thought my baby should or should not be doing.
Experience helped me see that babies develop in their own ways and on their own timelines. I had learned from my first child that not every parenting decision needed to feel heavy. I did not have to let every choice steal my joy. Having a second child did not make life simpler, but it made me more confident. I knew I could handle hard days. I knew the newborn stage would not last forever. I knew that a peaceful mom mattered, too.
One thing I am thankful I do not have to worry as much about is diapering. We have talked about cloth diapering before, but when baby number two came along, it became more challenging for our family. My standards for natural and non-toxic products did not change, though. I still wanted gentle, dependable options for my kids, especially for something used every single day. That is why I was thankful to find Pampers Pure diapers from Walmart.
These diapers have been a helpful fit for this stage of motherhood. They are made with thoughtfully selected materials, including plant-based fibers, and they are created using 100% renewable electricity. Most importantly for our everyday life, they work well. They offer up to 12 hours of leak protection, which makes a real difference when you are caring for a baby and trying to get a little more rest.
Before we started using Pampers Pure diapers, my 5-month-old, Ari, was already sleeping fairly well. He usually woke once during the night, somewhere between 2:30 and 4:30 in the morning, to be fed and changed. The night we switched to Pampers Pure, he slept until 6:30 in the morning. At first, I thought it might have been a fluke, but night after night, he continued sleeping longer. He also started taking longer naps, which may have been because wetness was not waking him as easily.
For our family, that extra sleep has been a gift. We also have not had the same blowouts we experienced with other natural diapers. Ari is a heavy wetter, and he can soak through just about anything, but so far these diapers have kept everything contained. Less waking, fewer messes, and more sleep make a big difference. A better-rested baby often means a better-rested mom, and that makes the whole day feel more manageable. Add a cup of coffee, and I feel almost unstoppable.
The wipes have also been convenient. They are made with 99% water, and the ingredients are all scored low, 3 or less, on the EWG database. I can easily toss them into the diaper bag and use them for diaper changes, sticky hands, and messy little faces. In this busy season of life, I appreciate products that feel simple, practical, and gentle.
As moms, we already carry so much. We think about sleep, feeding, growth, schedules, emotions, laundry, dishes, appointments, and all the little needs that fill a day. What we use to diaper our babies should not have to be another source of stress.
These days, I am grateful to have fewer worries and more space to enjoy the blessings right in front of me. Pampers Pure and Walmart have given me one less thing to overthink, and that matters in this season of motherhood.
None of us can be the perfect mom, and thankfully, our babies do not need perfection. They need love, care, comfort, patience, and connection. They need us as we are. So let’s encourage one another, offer help when another mom is struggling, and be the kind of village we all need. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, please talk to someone you trust. I was nervous about having a second child, but I am thankful for the way this little boy has changed me. He has helped me become a calmer, stronger, and more joyful mom.
